Final Stats

MEMPHIS--Rhodes used a three-run fifth inning to take a 3-1 victory over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Wednesday afternoon at Buc Field.

Freshman pitcher Ryan McCabe (Richmond, Texas/Terry HS) turned in a strong start for the Bucs (13-17), keeping the game scoreless through four innings as he allowed five hits and struck out three.

But in the top of the fifth, the Lynx (20-8) used three hits and a walk to score three runs. Brandon Valentine hit a one-out RBI single. J.R. Bizzell drove in another run with a groundout, and Valentine scored on a two-out Richard Hurd double.

The Bucs answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Josh Shelton (Rosemark, Tenn./Christian Brothers HS) drew a one-out walk and scored on back-to-back two-out singles by Will Britt (Oxford, Miss./Oxford HS) and Rocky Escajadillo (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS).

The Bucs threatened again in the ninth inning. With one out, three straight Bucs reached base, but Rhodes reliever Charles Simmons closed out his second save with a strikeout and a foulout.

Hunter Chandler (2-2) earned the win for the Lynx, pitching five scoreless innings while allowing three hits and a walk.

The Bucs will be back in action this weekend as they visit Harding for a critical GSC West series. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at noon, with a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
