No. 2 Muleriders Complete Sweep of Bucs

April 13, 2008

Final Stats

MAGNOLIA, Ark.--No. 2 Southern Arkansas remained unbeaten in Gulf South Conference West Division play as they completed a sweep of their three-game series with a 10-2 win over the Christian Brothers University Bucs Sunday afternoon.

The Muleriders (36-4, 15-0 GSC West) scored a run in the second inning and scored all they would need with a three-run third. They tacked on three unearned runs in the fifth, courtesy of two CBU errors, to make it 7-0.

The Bucs (14-23, 6-8) broke through in the eighth inning. Bobby Lawrence (Germantown, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) led off with a double, and back-to-back walks by Mark Foster (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) and Andrew Griffy (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) loaded the bases. Lawrence and Foster scored on a pair of RBI groundouts, cutting the margin to 7-2.

SAU tacked on three more in the bottom of the eighth to stretch the lead to 10-2, and they blanked the Bucs in the ninth for the final margin.

Despite being swept this weekend, the Bucs enter the final two weekends of the season just two games behind both Arkansas Tech and No. 21 Ouachita Baptist for the fourth seed from the GSC West in next month's Gulf South Conference Tournament at USA Stadium in Millington. The Bucs, who swept Arkansas Tech earlier this year, finish their GSC schedule with home series against Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.

The Bucs will be back in action Tuesday afternoon as they host Union in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
