Lady Tigers Hold Off Lady Bucs 66-59

Feb. 21, 2008

Final Stats

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.--Host Ouachita Baptist scored 19 of their 34 second-half points at the free throw line as they earned a 66-59 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night in Gulf South Conference West Division action.

The Lady Bucs (16-8, 4-7 GSC West) jumped out to an 8-0 lead after back-to-back Erin Nigh (Morristown, Ind./Morristown HS) three-pointers to start the game, but Ouachita (5-19, 2-9) went on a 13-2 run over the next five minutes to take the lead, and CBU only regained the lead twice more, both times by just a point.

The Lady Bucs took their final lead at 47-46 on a Nigh three-pointer with 10:07 remaining, but they were held scoreless for the next 4:33 and without a field goal for the next 7:11, allowing Ouachita to retake the lead for good with a 10-2 run over that stretch.

Freshman center Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) led the Lady Bucs with 15 points and nine rebounds. Nigh scored 14, while junior guard Kat Butler (Nashville, Tenn./Brentwood HS) added 13. Junior forward Crystal Shelton (Nashville, Tenn./Hume Fogg HS) scored nine points as she passed the 1,000-point mark for her career on a jumper with 2:38 remaining.

Angela Colliver led Ouachita with 17 points. Gabby Coleman scored 14, while Maranda Parker added 13.

The Lady Bucs' shooting woes continued as they shot just 37.5 percent (24-of-64) from the floor. Ouachita was 48.8 percent (20-of-41). The Lady Tigers shot 80.8 percent (21-of-26) at the free throw line to CBU's 40 percent (4-of-10).

The Lady Bucs will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. when they host No. 1 Delta State.
