MEMPHIS--Visiting Delta State swept a pair of close games from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday afternoon at Bland Field, winning 5-3 and 3-2 in Gulf South Conference West Division action.

The Lady Statesmen (16-13, 4-2 GSC West) used a three-run Paige Silverthorn homer in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead in the opening game, and they held on to win 5-3.

The Lady Bucs (11-9, 0-4) closed within a run in the bottom of the second as pitcher Kallie McFatter (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) helped her own cause by launching a two-run homer to left, the first of her career.

DSU tacked on a run in the fourth as Brittany Eikner walked and scored on an Amber Hass double.  Chasey Niebrugge hit a leadoff homer in the fifth to provide DSU's final scoring.

The Lady Bucs couldn't convert on doubles in the fourth and fifth innings, but they made one last rally in the seventh.  Pinch hitter Stephanie Keaton (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) singled, followed by a McFatter single and a Nikki Dunn (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) walk to load the bases.  The next three Lady Bucs were retired, however, with Victoria Mathews (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview HS) pushing a run home with an RBI groundout.

McFatter, Mathews, and Paige Wright (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) each had two hits for the Lady Bucs.

In the second game, the two teams traded runs until the seventh.  DSU scored first in the second inning, but the Lady Bucs answered as Wright singled and scored on a Keaton groundout.

DSU scored on a two-out error in the sixth, but Casey King (Flower Mound, Texas/Flower Mound HS) blasted a leadoff homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game back up at two.

DSU scored the game's final run in the top of the seventh as Niebrugge doubled and scored on a Jackie Stowe single.

Jessica Ambers (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) went 3-for-3 in the game for CBU.

The Lady Bucs are back at Bland Field Saturday at noon as they host Blackburn for a doubleheader.
