MEMPHIS--Visiting Henderson State swept a Gulf South Conference doubleheader from the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Wednesday afternoon at Bland Field, winning 4-2 and 11-2.

The Lady Reddies (28-8, 8-2 GSC) used a three-run first and never looked back in the first game. Kelcie Glidden led off with a single. She stole second and scored on an error. Two batters later, Jennifer Lynn hit a two-run homer to left to give HSU the lead for good.

The Lady Bucs (12-14, 1-9) scored in the third as Lauren Hearn (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) doubled to right-center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Victoria Mathews (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview HS).

The game would remain 3-1 until the seventh, when Glidden hit a homer to make it 4-1 Henderson. Kallie McFatter (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) doubled in the bottom of the inning to set up a run, but the Lady Bucs couldn't push across another.

In game two, another strong first inning gave HSU a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Heather Canerday hit a homer to center, then Miracle Thurston hit an RBI double to make it 2-0. Kayla Lucas hit a two-run homer in the third to make it 4-0.

After Henderson tacked on another run on a two-out error in the fourth, the Lady Bucs made a comeback. Back-to-back doubles by Mathews and Paige Wright (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) led to a pair of runs, cutting the deficit back to three runs at 5-2.

The Lady Reddies blew it open with two outs in the fifth, however, scoring six runs as eight straight batters reached after CBU had retired the first two.

Mathews went 2-for-2 for the Lady Bucs in the second game.

The Lady Bucs and Lady Reddies meet again Saturday at 1 p.m. for the second doubleheader of the GSC series. CBU's next home game is set for April 6 against Arkansas Tech.
