MEMPHIS--The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs snapped a five-game losing streak Tuesday afternoon as they swept a doubleheader at Rhodes, winning 7-0 in the first game and 4-3 in the nightcap.

The Lady Bucs (14-16) scored three runs in the top of the first inning in the opener and let the right arm of Nikki Dunn (Southaven, Miss./Southaven HS) do the rest. Dunn whiffed 10 batters and faced just two over the minimum as she tossed a two-hit shutout, allowing just two singles in the fifth inning.

The Lady Bucs cashed in on three singles, a hit batter, and a squeeze bunt in the top of the first to score three. In the second inning, Lauren Hearn (Millington, Tenn./Millington HS) led off with a triple and scored on an error. Victoria Mathews (Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Timberview HS) also singled and scored in the inning to make it 5-0.

In the seventh, the Lady Bucs took advantage of three errors and two passed balls to score two more runs to provide the final margin.

For the game, Mathews finished 2-for-4 with three runs, while Hearn went 2-for-3.

In game two, the Lady Bucs jumped out to a 4-0 lead and withstood their own nightmarish inning in the fifth to win by a run.

Kathleen Nelson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bolton HS) walked, stole second, and scored on a pair of passed balls to put the Lady Bucs ahead in the first inning. Stephanie Keaton (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) delivered the big blow an inning later when she launched a two-run homer, the first of her CBU career.

Keaton tripled with one out in the fourth, later scoring on a Mathews single to make it 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, however, the Lady Bucs committed two errors and three hits, allowing Rhodes (8-14) to plate three unearned runs. Kallie McFatter (Mansfield, Texas/Summit HS) eventually pitched her way out of the jam, holding onto a slim 4-3 lead. She tossed a perfect sixth before Dunn came on to earn her second save with a perfect seventh inning. McFatter (5-9) allowed three unearned runs on four hits and a walk as she struck out five batters in six innings.

The Lady Bucs will return to Gulf South Conference play Friday afternoon when they visit Arkansas Tech for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
