UNIVERSITY PARK - The Clarion University women's cross country team was the top NCAA Division II program at the high-powered Penn State Nationals Friday morning while also topping two NCAA Division I teams. The Golden Eagles finished 19th out of 25 teams with 585 points bettering PSAC rivals Bloomsburg, Slippery Rock and Lock Haven while also topping NCAA Division I teams South Carolina and Rider. Clarion's Erin Richard was the top NCAA D-II runner finishing 47th in a time of 22:09. Molly Smathers, a Clarion High School graduate, was 122nd in a time of 23:57, while Caitlin Palko was 133rd in a time of 24:17. Kate Ehrensberger (141st, 24:24), Suzanne Schwerer (142nd, 24:27), Lisa Nickel (163rd, 25:21) and Kate Reinhart (171st, 25:54) also had solid races for the Golden Eagles. Clarion is off until Oct. 27 when it competes in the PSAC Championships at Kutztown. |
