Feb. 11, 2008

LOCK HAVEN - For the fourth time this season, Clarion University freshman shooting guard Mike Sherry (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) is the PSAC-West Rookie of the Week.

It is also the fifth time this year Sherry has been honored by the PSAC, as he was the PSAC-West Player of the Week once as well.

Sherry helped Clarion (11-10 overall, 3-4 PSAC-West) go 1-1 last week with a win over Slippery Rock and a loss to California. He averaged 11 points and three assists per game during the week while shooting 50 percent (6 of 12) from the floor, 40 percent (2 of 5) from three-point range and 88.9 percent (8 of 9) from the free-throw line. He was the lone Clarion starter in double figures in the Cal game with 10 points in 22 minutes of action while adding 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting Wednesday vs. Shippensburg.

On the season, Sherry is Clarion's leading scorer at 12.4 ppg, which is the second best mark by a freshman in the PSAC. His 248 points tie for the second most among freshman at Clarion in the past six seasons, and he is averaging 14.3 ppg in the Golden Eagles seven PSAC-West contests.

Clarion returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts IUP at 8 p.m.

NOTES - Sherry was also Rookie of the Week Dec. 4, Dec. 10 and Jan. 22 while being named PSAC-West Player of the Week Jan. 28 after scoring a career-high 30 points vs. Shippensburg Jan. 26.
