CLARION'S SHERRY NAMED PSAC-WEST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

LOCK HAVEN - For the second week in a row and the fifth time this season, Clarion University freshman shooting guard Mike Sherry in the PSAC-West Rookie of the Week.

Sherry (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) led the Golden Eagles to a 2-0 record last week with wins over IUP Wednesday and Shippensburg Saturday. The highlight of his week came against IUP when he scored 25 points including 15 of 17 during a game-deciding 17-6 second-half run. All of his points during the run came on 3-pointer, and he finished the night 8 of 13 shooting and 7 of 12 from beyond the 3-point arc. At Shippensburg, Mike added 10 points, four assists and three rebounds.

On the season, Sherry has 283 points, the most by a freshman at Clarion since Terrance Vaughns scored 301 in 2003. Mike is shooting 46.7 percent from the floor on the year, an impressive number considering all but 61 of his 197 shots have come from 3-point range. He is a 44.1 percent 3-point shooter, which is the third-best mark in the PSAC, and his 12.9 ppg leads Clarion and is in the Top 20 in the PSAC.

Sherry and the Golden Eagles are 13-10 overall and 5-4 in the PSAC-West this year and have won five of their last seven. Clarion returns to action at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lock Haven.

NOTES - Sherry was also Rookie of the Week Dec. 4, Dec. 10, Jan. 22 and Feb. 11 and was the PSAC-West Player of the Week Jan. 28 after scoring a career-high 30 points vs. Shippensburg.
