Al Lefevre, 64, an experienced and accomplished coach, returns to his alma mater for his ninth season as Clarion's head golf coach.

Lefevre has led Clarion to the PSAC championship in the Fall of 2005 and Spring 2002, plus four runner-up finishes (2004, 2004, 2003 and 2001).

Clarion also has six straight NCAA D-II Regional appearances. The 2007 squad was 7th at the Regionals last year, while the 2006 team finished second. The Eagles were 3rd at Regionals in 2005, 5th at Regionals in 2004 and 8th in 2003 and 2002.

Lefevre was named PSAC "Coach of the Year" in 2006 and 2002. He is currently serving as a member of the NCAA Division II and Golf Coaches Association regional and national ranking committees.

A talented golfer himself with extensive links experience, Al has a long history coaching golf. Al was the head or assistant golf coach at nearby Brookville High School from 1965-99. He led Brookville High School's golf team to Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference titles in 1986, 87 and 97.

A 1965 Clarion graduate in Speech Pathology, Lefevre was a talented athlete who played quarterback for the Golden Eagles during three seasons (1961-63) and was a starter for two. In 1963 he completed 46 of 104 passes for 554 yards and 3 td's, plus rushed for 61 yards and 2 td's. Unable to play his senior year due to injury, he played a key role as a student coach. In 1971 he received his Masters Degree from Clarion in 1971 in Elementary Education.

A speech therapist for Riverview Intermediate Unit 6 from 1965-99, he spent 34 years coaching over 70 teams at nearby Brookville Area High School before retiring last Summer. As head football coach at Brookville he led his teams to "Little 10" conference titles in 1970 and 1971, while being named "Little 10" Coach of the Year in 1969 and 1970. He was head coach from 1968-82.

A native of Tarentum, Pa. and 1961 graduate of Tarentum High School, Lefevre earned a number of honors as quarterback his senior year. Among them were being named first team Allegheny-Kiski Valley, first team WPIAL and the Allegheny-Kiski Valley "Back of the Year.

Al and wife Bonnie Harkness reside in Brookville. They have two sons Scott and Douglas.
