Clarion Knocks Off Seventh Ranked Edinboro 76-64

EDINBORO - Behind another balanced scoring effort, the Clarion University women's basketball team knocked off the seventh ranked team in the NCAA Division II East Region, Edinboro, 76-64 Wednesday night at Edinboro's McComb Fieldhouse.

Clarion (13-6 overall, 3-2 PSAC-West) had four players in double figured led by 17 points apiece from Katrina Greer and Jessica Albanese, with Greer recording her recording her first double-double of the season and second of her career by adding 10 rebounds. In the process, the junior went over 900 career points with 907.

Sara Pratt added 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for the Golden Eagles, while My'Kea Cohill had 14 points and eight assists and Ashley Grimm five points and seven assists. Pratt's three blocks give her 70 in her career, just the fourth player in school history with at least 70. It was also the 13th time this season Clarion has had at least four players in double figures.

Kelsey Conklin led all scorers with 18 points for Edinboro (11-7, 1-3), while Janine McDonald added 17 and Samantha Reimer 16. Jessica Trotter added eight points and nine rebounds.

Clarion used a half ending 9-3 run to take a 34-28 halftime lead, and then started the second half with a 24-13 run to expand the lead to 17, 58-41, midway through the second half.

The Golden Eagles still led by 17, 63-46, with 7:11 to play, but Edinboro had one last run in it going on a 14-6 spurt to cut the lead to 69-60 with 2:02 to play. Clarion, however, hit 7 of 8 free throws including its last seven straight in the final 1:35 to seal the victory, its third in a row.

Clarion now takes a week off returning to action next Wednesday when it hosts Slippery Rock (6 p.m.).

NOTES - Clarion shot 51 percent (25 of 49) for the game including 4 of 6 three-pointers and also hit 22 of 24 free throws (91.7 percent). It marks the fifth time Clarion has shot better than 50 percent in a game this year and the third time Clarion has hit 90 percent of its free throws or better. The Golden Eagles, who are shooting 78.9 percent from the line this year, have hit at least 75 percent of its charity shots 12 times this season and at least 80 percent eight times.
