Tallahassee, FL - Clemson senior Polly Hardy was the women's track & field team's top performer on day one at the NCAA East Region Championships. The meet is being held at Mike Long Track on the campus of Florida State University.

Hardy did an outstanding job Friday in the 100m hurdle prelims and will have a chance Saturday to advance to her first-ever NCAA national meet. Hardy was third in her section, but was fifth-fastest overall. She will need to finish in the top five Saturday to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA meet.

Caroline Kennedy competed in the pole vault and finished in a tie for 17th place. She had a clearance of 12'0". Kennedy had qualified in the event for the second straight season. Linda Buchholz had a strong performance in the javelin throw, finishing 11th out of 31 competitors. The sophomore from Bad Segeberg, Germany had a season-best throw of 149'4". Bethanie Wachna (135'5") was 20th for the Lady Tigers in the javelin.

April Sinkler finished 16th in the long jump, despite fouling on two of her three attempts. The freshman out of Stafford, VA hit a mark of 19'0.75" on her first jump, but fouled on the final two preliminary jumps.
