Clemson sophomore Patricia Mamona claimed the 2008 Portuguese national championship last week with a personal best effort in the triple jump. She jumped 44'4" (13.51 meters), better than her previous best of 43'11.25" achieved at this year's NCAA East Region Championships in Tallahassee, FL.

Mamona was four-time All-ACC this season in the horizontal jumps. She placed fifth in the East Region Championships, which earned her a second straight trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She placed 10th at the NCAA national meet.

Mamona is now the national leader in the Portuguese outdoor rankings and is a senior national champion for the first time in her native country.
