Vikings Down Flames, 5-2
April 20, 2008 Contact: Jessica GerichCHICAGO, Ill. - The Cleveland State men's tennis team concluded its regular season with a 5-2 victory over UIC on Sunday afternoon. The win gives the No. 1 seed in the Horizon League Championship to the Vikings due to a tiebreak. CSU finishes the regular season 16-5 overall and 5-1 in Horizon League play. CSU won at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles to claim the doubles point and won four singles matches at UIC. Sophomore Phil Orno finished the regular season undefeated against Horizon League opponents and stretched his singles match win streak to 17. Orno defeated Adriano Liccardo 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Sophomore Ryan Hamning won 6-4, 6-3 over Sebastian Lystad at No. 2 singles, while freshman Robert Fox defeated Danny Wilson 7-6 (4), 4-6, 10-7 at No. 5 singles. Fox also was 6-0 in league play and has won 14 consecutive singles matches. Junior Rob West clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Sean Kreymborg at No. 6 singles. "We knew coming into this match we were going to be in a tiebreak situation," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "We played big when we needed it and it was good to have Rob come through with the clinching point. Phil beat every No. 1 player in the conference and he'll be leading us at No. 1 in the conference tournament."
