CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore Ryan Hamning was named the men's tennis Horizon League Athlete of the Week after going 1-0 at No. 1 singles and at No. 1 doubles last week. The league made the announcement on Thursday (Jan. 31).

Hamning (10-6) defeated Chris Herrlinger 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3 at No. 1 singles in CSU's 4-3 win over Xavier on Saturday, Jan. 26. The Middletown, Ohio native also played with sophomore Phil Orno at No. 1 doubles, winning 9-8 (4). The duo is 7-5 in doubles play this season.

"This was a great week for Ryan and he continues to get big wins for us at the top of the lineup," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "He defeated a tough opponent in Herrlinger, a former State Singles Champion. It was great for him to pick up the three-set win in a match in which we could not spare another loss."

Detroit's Zeljka Minic won the honor on the women's side.

The Vikings travel to St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 2:00 p.m. and Niagara on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m.
