Orno Named Horizon League Tennis Athlete Of The Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore Phil Orno has been named Horizon League Tennis Athlete of the Week after going 2-0 in singles play last weekend. The league office made the announcement on Wednesday, (Feb. 6).

Orno (9-9) defeated Leo Mochizuki of St. Bonaventure 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles on Feb. 2 and Niagara's Alex Abji 6-2, 6-0 on Feb. 3. Orno teamed with classmate Ryan Hamning to win 8-5 at No. 1 doubles at Niagara. The duo is now 8-5 on the season at No. 1 doubles.

"Phil is picking up where he left off last season and it is exciting that he is at this level by week three," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "He is locked in and playing some great tennis."

Cleveland State's Melissa Holzinger won the honor on the women's side.

The Vikings host Duquesne on Friday, Feb. 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the River Oaks Racquet Club.
