CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State sophomore tennis standout Phil Orno was named the Horizon League Male Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday (Feb. 12) afternoon.

Orno, an English major who owns a 3.41 GPA, won both of his No. 1 singles matches in CSU victories over Duquesne and St. Francis (PA) last week. Orno won 6-4, 6-2 over Alex Mast of Duquesne on Friday (Feb. 8) and defeated Jeffrey Seevers of St. Francis, 6-1, 6-2 on Saturday (Feb. 9).

Orno also paired with sophomore Ryan Hamning to win at No. 1 doubles against Duquesne.

"It is a great honor for Phil and the team to receive," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "This honor shows the emphasis that is placed on academics as well as athletics."

Orno has been an instrumental part to Cleveland State's 6-2 start this season. He is 11-9 in singles play and is 9-5 at No. 1 doubles with Hamning.

The Cleveland State men's tennis team is idle this week. The Vikings return to action on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. against Toledo.
