Orno Named Horizon League Athlete Of The Week

April 16, 2008

Contact: Jessica GerichCLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State sophomore tennis player Phil Orno was selected as the Horizon League Male Tennis Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday evening.

Orno went 4-0 in wins over Green Bay and Youngstown State, defeating Green Bay's Tim Prudlow (6-2, 6-4) and Youngstown State's Scott Kathary (6-4, 6-4) at No. 1 singles. Orno teamed with classmate Ryan Hamning to win over Green Bay's Prudlow and Mark Goldin (8-4) and YSU's Kathary and Ryan Trapp (8-4) at No. 1 doubles.

"Phil has been the leader of this team all year long and has really grown as a player," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "He is playing some great tennis, even more so he is finding ways to win when he is not playing his best."

UIC's Kristen McPhillips won the honor on the women's side.

CSU concludes its regular season at league opponents Valparaiso on Sunday, April 19 and UIC on Sunday, April 20.
