CLEVELAND, Ohio - After recording her first career double-double with a game-high 30 points and 11 rebounds on Saturday against Youngstown State, Cleveland State sophomore guard Kailey Klein has been selected as the Horizon League Player of the Week. Klein hit 11-of-18 (.611) from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point and 5-of-6 from the foul line. Klein's efforts helped the Vikings earn a 77-64 win over the Penguins and move CSU into sole possession of third place in the league standings with a 5-2 record. CSU, which is 11-7 overall, trails second place Milwaukee (6-2) by one-half game and first place Green Bay (7-1) by a game-and-a-half. A Preseason All-Horizon League first team selection, Klein is among the league leaders in almost every statistical category. She ranks second in scoring (17.9), third in free throw percentage (.849), sixth in offensive rebounds (2.17), eighth in steals (1.89), 12th in rebounding (5.5), 14th in three-point field goal percentage (.358) and assists (2.94) and 15th in field goal percentage (.426). Klein was also named the Horizon League Player of the Week on Dec. 31 after leading the Vikings to a 65-63 win over American on Dec. 29 by scoring 21 points, including a 17-footer at the buzzer. CSU will return to action for a pair of games this week, beginning with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Butler on Thursday, Jan. 31. The Vikings will then travel to league newcomer Valparaiso on Saturday, Feb.2, for a 1:35 p.m. CST contest. |
