Vikings Defeat Dayton, 7-0

Contact: Jessica Gerich Dayton, Ohio - Cleveland State won the doubles point and all six singles matches to defeat Dayton, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon. The win is CSU's fourth straight and puts the Vikings at 5-2 on the season. Freshmen Melissa Holzinger (8-10) and Jackie Tabb (5-12) each won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively. Senior Jenn Myers (9-7) defeated Megan Gray 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, while freshman Sanda Bjelan (10-7) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Sophomores Charlotte Gibbons (8-2) and Denisa Muntean (10-7) won at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Gibbons defeated Molly Mathews 6-2, 6-1 and Muntean won 6-0, 6-0 over Chelsea Gray. "We came out today and played better at doubles and I am happy with the progress," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "In singles we got ahead and stayed ahead in our matches. Jenn played clean tennis, her best since her surgeries. Overall, this was a good win for the program." The Vikings will host Akron on Saturday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. at River Oaks Racquet Club.
