Little Posts NCAA Pole Vault Qualifier

Eagle Rock, CA - Senior Andrew Little posted an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the pole vault with a best effort of 16 feet, 6 3/4 Saturday to take second place -- first among collegians -- at the Occidental Invitational. Little's mark matched Kevin Jones of Cal Poly for the best vault by a Big West competitor this season.. Three Titan women also posted Big West qualifying marks in the meet. Chelsea Moreland ran a 56.80 in the 400 meters, Denise Vega ran 2:15.19 for a personal best in the 800 and Bonnie Sorensen cleared 5 feet, 4 1/4 inches in the high jump. Sorensen earlier had qualified in the long jump. "We accomplished our goals at the Oxy Invitational," said Head Coach John Elders. "We got some more people qualified and had some big improvements which should help us in the Big West Championships next weekend." The multi-events in the Big West meet were held this weekend at Cal State Northridge. Heather Leidle finished 11th (3,985 points) and Janey Davis was 12th (3,924) in the heptathlon. Each had her best score in the 200 meters with Davis earning 868 points with a 25.21 time and Leidle got 724 with a time of 26.86. Sharon Day of Cal Poly won the heptathlon with 5,642 points. |
