Malibu, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton was unable to overcome a nine-run Pepperdine first inning and fell to the Waves 13-2 on Tuesday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium in non-conference baseball action. Fullerton falls to 9-8 on the year while Pepperdine improves to 14-5.

Freshman southpaw Jason Dovel suffered the loss and was unable to record an out in the first inning as all six men he faced reached base and later scored. Dovel, making his second career start, falls to 1-2.

Pepperdine sent 12 men to the plate against Dovel and reliever Brian Wilson in the first, with six of them reaching base via hit. The big blow came as David Harris unloaded on a Wilson offering for a grand slam to give the Waves a 9-0 lead.

Robert Dickman (2-2) pitched very effectively for seven innings surrendering just five Titan hits, all singles, for the win.

Fullerton scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning off relief pitcher Tyler Hess. Hess started the inning by hitting Gary Brown and walking pinch-hitter Jeff Newman. Christian Colon singled home Brown and pinch-hitter Jon Wilhite followed with an RBI-single of his own to drive home Newman.

Travis Kelly, Kevin Rath and Ryan Ackland each provided scoreless relief appearances, with Kelly's being a two-inning, one hit, one strikeout effort.

Colon finished with two hits to lead the Titans, while Erik Komatsu, Khris Davis and Joel Weeks each had a hit.

Doug Konoske struck out the side in the ninth to ensure the win for Pepperdine.

Trent Diedrich and Travis Tartamella each finished with two hits and a pair of RBIs each, while Harris led all players with four RBI.

Fullerton will host UNLV this Thursday, Friday and Saturday (7 pm, 7 pm, and 1 pm) at Goodwin Field. The Titans will throw Jeff Kaplan, Daniel Renken and Cory Arbiso, respectively.
