Chow's 23 Leads Titans Over Cal Poly

Feb. 9, 2008

Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton freshman guard Lauren Chow scored a game-high 23 points and the host Titans shot 52 percent in the second half to post a 70-55 come-from-behind victory over Cal Poly in a Big West Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday night at Titan Gym.

The win was Fullerton's sixth in its last seven games as the Titans improved to 8-14 overall and 6-4 in Big West play. Cal Poly fell to 9-14 overall and 6-4 in league play.

Chow, who finished 8-of-18 from the floor, hit three consecutive three pointers at one stretch, including the go-ahead trey to snap a 34-34 tie with just over 14 minutes to play. The 9-4 spurt gave Fullerton a lead it would never relinquish as the Titans went on to post their largest margin of victory this season.

The Titans hit 12-of-16 from the free throw line down the stretch to ice the victory as they finished with 27 attempts from the stripe - the third-highest total of the season.

Freshman Ashley Richie finished with 18 points (14 of those coming in the second half) on 7-of-14 shooting and was joined in double figures by sophomore Jasmine Scott, who added 10 points and a career-high tying eight rebounds.

The Titans struggled out of the gates, shooting just 24 percent from the field while falling behind by as many as seven points with just under six minutes to play. A three-pointer by Chow keyed a brief 7-0 run for Fullerton that tied the game at 23-23 with 3:36 to play.

Neither team wanted to grab the lead as they combined to go 0-for-9 from the floor over the next two-plus minutes before Brittany Asplund drained a three-pointer for her only basket of the game with 11 seconds remaining to give Cal Poly the lead at the break.

Cal Poly, which shot just under 36 percent for the game, was led offensively by Kyla Howell's 12 points while Kristina Santiago also finished in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds.

Cal State Fullerton kicks-off a three-game road trip next weekend as the Titans head north to Stockton, Calif., for a Valentine's Day meeting with Pacific at 7 p.m.
