Senior Kiki Munoz extended her hitting streak to nine straight games on Thursday night against Loyola Chicago

Titans Shutout by Loyola Chicago, 7-0

March 6, 2008

Box Score

FULLERTON, CA - Loyola Chicago's Amy Solava retired the final 17 batters she faced, holding host Cal State Fullerton to only two hits on the night as the Ramblers shutout the Titans, 7-0, in a non-conference match-up on Thursday night at Anderson Family Field.

Fullerton fell to 11-8-1 overall with the defeat while Loyola Chicago improved to 4-9.

Three players accounted for the Ramblers' nine hits on the night led by Angie Funston, who finished a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI. Nora Schober had three hits, scoring three times, and driving in a pair while Jenna Grim added two hits on the night.

Loyola Chicago jumped out to the early lead, putting up three runs in the third inning and taking advantage of a pair of Fullerton errors. An infield single by Schober plated Kat Krause for the 1-0 lead and Ellen Kresl would make it 2-0 on a throwing error later in the inning.

Funston then followed with an RBI single to center to score Schober to make it 3-0.

Fullerton kept it close until the sixth when the Ramblers added another run thanks to back-to-back doubles by Schober and Funston for the 4-0 advantage.

Loyola Chicago then closed out the scoring with a three-run seventh as a single by Schober and an error in the outfield led to a pair of runs and a Funston single drove home the final run with two outs.

Senior Kiki Munoz and junior Lauren Lupinetti accounted for the only two Fullerton hits on the night - both coming in the second inning. Munoz's single extended her hitting streak to nine games - tying a season-high for a Titan this season.

Solava (3-5) struck out six in the victory, facing just two batters over the minimum in the complete-game effort. Freshman Ari Cervantes (0-1) suffered the loss in her first collegiate decision, allowing three earned on nine hits, walking two and striking out a pair.

Cal State Fullerton returns to the field on Friday night (March 7) at 6 p.m. as the Titans take on No. 8 Northwestern at Anderson Family Field as part of the Long Beach Invitational.
