Munoz Named Second-Team All-American

May 28, 2008

FULLERTON, CA - Cal State Fullerton senior Kiki Munoz was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-America Second Team as a utility player/non-pitcher on Wednesday after a stellar 2008 campaign for the Titans.

Munoz (Orange, CA/El Modena HS) becomes the 28th different Cal State Fullerton player to be named an All-American in the history of the program, but the first since Julie Watson was named to the second team as a senior in 2004. The Titans have garnered 37 All-America nods since the program's debut in 1980.

She was one of two players from the Big West Conference to earn All-America honors in 2008, joining Long Beach State freshman pitcher Brooke Turner, who was also named to the second team.

Munoz became only the ninth player in the history of the program to hit .400 for a season, going 64-for-160 (.400) at the plate in her senior year to go along with 16 doubles, seven home runs and 31 RBI. Her batting average ranks ninth for a season in the history of the program.

A first-team All-Big West and NFCA All-West Region selection in 2008, Munoz finished among the top five in the league in average (3rd), slugging percentage (.689, 4th), on-base percentage (.480, 3rd), hits (2nd), doubles (t1st), and home runs (t5th).

She finished with a team-high 20 multi-hit games, including a quartet of three-hit contests, and had a team-best nine-game hitting streak during which she batted 13-for-26 (.500) with five extra base hits and four RBI.

Munoz's 16 doubles rank in a tie for seventh on the school's single-season list while her slugging percentage and on-base percentage also rank among the top 10. She also finished her career ranking among the top 10 in five different categories: slugging (7th), doubles (9th), RBI (9th), walks (7th), and fielding percentage (7th).
