Oct. 25, 2007

Box Score

Fullerton, Calif. - 14 kills by Alex Wolnisty helped lift Cal State Fullerton to a 3-0 sweep of Cal State Bakersfield in a non-conference volleyball match at Titan Gym Thursday night. With the 30-22, 20-23, 30-24 win, the Titans improve to 11-10, while the Roadrunners fall to 6-17.

Wolnisty led all players in kills, and hit .458 while tying for the game high in blocks with three. Erin Saddler and Brittany Moore also collected three apiece, with one of Saddler's coming as a solo.

The Titans lead most of the way through he first two games, giving up the lead just once in game one. The Roadrunners forced eight ties early in game one, but the Titans broke away at 17-16 with three unforced errors by Bakersfield.

The Titans jumped out to a 10-5 lead in game number three, but the Roadrunners battled back scoring five straight points on Mystie McNaughton's serves, tying the game at 10-10. The two teams then matched points until 21-21, where Fullerton crept into the lead via a pair of kills by both Brittany Moore and Jonny Hart. Bakersfield then sealed its own fate with three errors in the final five rallies to give Fullerton the three game sweep.

Fullerton's defense was key in the win. Cami Croteau tallied 21 digs, to set a career-high in three-game matches, and the Titans out-blocked the Roadrunners as a team 6.0 to 1.0.

Rosemary Stribling hit .428 and collected eight kills to pace Bakersfield's offense, while McNaughton led defensively with 14 digs.

The Titans return to conference action next Tuesday as they travel to Long Beach State to take on the 49ers at 7 p.m at The Pyramid.
