49ers Spoil Senior Night, Sweep Titans, 3-0

Nov. 16, 2007

Box Score

Fullerton, Calif. - Long Beach State hitter Alexis Crimes led all players with 16 kills as the 49ers defeated the Cal State Fullerton Titans 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-19) to conclude the 2007 Big West Conference schedule for both squads Friday night at Titan Gym.

The Titans fall to 13-15, 7-9 while the 49ers improve to 21-6, 14-2. Alex Wolnisty finished with 13 kills on the night for Fullerton while hitting a game-high .545. Brittany Moore added 12 kills and a game-high seven blocks as well.

The Titans stayed as closes as one point at 18-19 in game one before the 49ers scored six straight points to take a 25-18 lead. Kills by Moore and Wolnisty kept the Titans close, but a pair of kills within the last three rallies by Crimes gave the 49ers the one game advantage.

Long Beach jumped out to a 17-8 lead on a Nicole Vargas service ace in game two and would not look back, taking two game lead into the break.

Moore's kill in game three tied game three at 13, but Long Beach's four unanswered points put them on their way to their seventh straight sweep over Fullerton.

Fullerton as a team out-blocked Long Beach 10.0 to 8.0 led by Moore's seven block assists, while freshman Erin Saddler contributed five of her own. Vargas and Naomi Washington each picked up three block assists for the visitors.

Cal State Fullerton has two remaining matches next week on Nov. 23 and 24 in the Cal State Northridge Thanksgiving Tournament, concluding the 2007 schedule.

NOTES: The Titans said goodbye to three departing seniors on Saturday night as they made their final appearances in a Titan uniform at Titan Gym. Jennifer Francisco and Julie Geissert played in the game while Mounia Nihipali remained out with a season-ending injury to her shoulder. Geissert added 34 assists to her all-time Fullerton record 3,800 coming into tonight's match while Francisco posted two kills and four digs in her Titan Gym finale.
