Former Cal State Northridge soccer player Sean Franklin was featured recently on MLSNet.com after entrenching himself in the starting 11 of the Los Angeles Galaxy. The former Matador defender has been one of the Galaxy's top performers in 2008.
Franklin was a four-time All-Big West defender in his career at Northridge and joined the Galaxy after being selected as the team's first round draft choice this spring.
Franklin was the fourth-overall selection in the MLS SuperDraft and was the highest-selected Matador in any sport.
In just his first professional season, Franklin has played the full 90 in the Galaxy's last four contests and, after playing on the right side as a collegian, has switched to a role in the middle as a pro. Franklin has added much needed speed and youth to a veteran-laiden back line.
Franklin has routinely been matched with opponents' speediest forward, as MLSNet.com staff writer Greg Daurio writes, and also has been impressive going into the midfield and feeding David Beckham. Head Coach Rudy Gullit recently called Franklin his best player over the last couple weeks.
