Kia Fennell begins her first season in 2008 as an assistant coach for the Northridge softball team. With the Matadors, Fennell will be responsible for working with the pitching staff. A former player under head coach Barbara Jordan, Fennell was a four-year letterwinner for the Matadors from 2002-2005, racking up numerous awards and finishing her career ranked on several Northridge all-time top 10 lists. Fennell was also a member of two Northridge teams to qualify for the NCAA Regionals. In 2003, Fennell went 17-12 with a 2.11 ERA and 169 strikeouts. For that performance, Fennell was named to the All-Big West First Team as a defensive player and to the All-Big West Second Team as a pitcher. She also was named a Second Team All-American and a First Team All-Region Selection that season. In 2004, after posting an 18-11 record and a 2.14 ERA, Fennell was named to the All-Big West Second Team as a pitcher. Fennell concluded her Northridge career with a 50-42 overall record. The 50 wins are the seventh most in school history. She also tossed 507.1 innings, the sixth most in school history and struck out 507 batters, the fourth highest total in Matador history. Since leaving Northridge,Fennell has taught private softball lessons and help conduct numerous softball clinics. Originally from Compton, Calif., Fennell graduated from Cal State Northridge in 2005 with a B.A. in child development. |
