No. 49 Minnesota Squeezes Past No. 70 Northridge, 4-3

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Despite singles victories from Sandra Kukla and Nina Jaworowski, the No. 70 Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (9-3) fell to No. 49 Minnesota (10-3), 4-3, at the Matador Tennis Complex Wednesday afternoon. CSUN did win the doubles point, as the team of Brooke Doane and Kanykey Koichumanova improved their record to a perfect 11-0 on the season.

Jaworowski, a freshman, has now won seven-straight matches in singles competition after defeating Mikayala Rogers, 6-2, 5-7 and 7-6 (1) in the No. 6 match. Her record now stands at 9-2 in singles play.

Kukla, a junior, improved to 8-2 overall in singles play with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Danielle Mousseau in the No. 4 match. She and Jaworowski also teamed up to win their No. 3 doubles match, 8-2, over Rogers and Jackie Sperling. The duo is now 8-2 in doubles overall.

As the team's other doubles' winner, Koichumanova and Doane defeated Alessandra Ferrazzi and Tijana Koprivica, 8-2, in the No. 2 contest to give CSUN its third point of the match. Koichumanova lost her No. 2 singles draw, 6-7 (2), 6-1 and 3-6, to Lindsay Risebrough and Doane lost, 6-7 (8-6) and 2-6, to Sperling in the No. 5 singles match. She is now 7-3 on the season in singles while Koichumanova is 6-6.

In other singles action, Victoria Brymer lost, 6-7 (8-6) and 2-6, to Alessandra Ferrazzi in the top singles draw. Senior Canna Furuta also lost to the Golden Gophers, falling 4-6, 6-4 and 6-4 to Tijana Koprivica in the No. 3 match.

The duo also lost their top doubles draw, 2-8, to Risebrough and Danielle Mousseau. In doubles, Furuta and Brymer are 6-4 and in singles, Furuta stands at 6-5 while Brymer is 3-7.

The Matadors return to the court on Sunday, Mar. 23, when they host Boise State. First serve at the Matador Tennis Complex between the Broncos and Matadors is slated for 11 a.m.
