NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (9-4) lost to No. 46 Boise State Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Matador Tennis Complex. Senior Kanykey Koichumanova picked up a singles victory at her No. 2 position and she and teammate Brooke Doane continued their run in doubles, improving to 12-0.
Continuing their perfect season, Koichumanova and Doane dispatched of Stacey Housley and Jana Mackova, 8-4, in the No. 2 doubles match. In singles action Koichumanova, an All-Big West First Team honoree in 2007, improved to 7-6 on the season with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Polina Kokoulina. Doane lost her No. 6 match, 3-6, 6-4 and 7-3 to Laura Baum.
In other doubles action, Pichittra Thongdach and Kokoulina defeated junior Victoria Brymer and senior Canna Furuta in the No. 1 match, 8-5. Finally, the doubles point was decided when Baum and Klaudia Wlodarczyk defeated junior Sandra Kukla and freshman Nina Jaworowski, 9-7, in the No. 3 match.
Kukla also picked up a singles victory for the Matadors, defeating Wlodarczyk, 3-6, 6-4 and 10-4, at the third position. Brymer fell, 7-5 and 6-2, to Thongdach in the top draw.
In the bottom half of the ledger, Furuta lost. 7-5 and 6-4, to Housley in the fourth position while Mackova snapped Jaworowski's seven-match winning streak in singles play, 6-3 and 6-3, in the No. 5 match.
The Matadors now await a date with No. 39 Long Beach State on Mar. 28 at the Matador Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
