Rams track team to kick off outdoor season

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State's track and field team will head to Boulder to kick off the outdoor season at the CU Potts Invitational on Saturday, when the Rams will compete against a strong field including Big 12 power and host Colorado. Seniors Janay DeLoach and Kevin Johnson will be returning for the outdoor season. DeLoach, Colorado State's two-time All-American, placed sixth in the women's long jump finals at last year's NCAA track and field championship, posting a mark of 21-0.75, and finished 14th in the 60 meters. At the USA Track and Field Championships she placed seventh in the women's long jump with a leap of 21-00.5. Johnson also competed in the 2007 NCAA championship, finishing 13th in the decathlon. He was the first decathlete at Colorado State to advance to the NCAA championship since 1982. The Rams' women's squad wrapped up the indoor season with a second-place finish at the Mountain West Conference indoor track and field championships. Allison Gohl finished first in the 5,000-meter run and Kristen Hemphill finished up the meet with a victory in the 3,000-meter run.
Last season at the MWC outdoor championships Colorado State's men's team captured second place while the women's team placed fourth. The men's team scored 166 points, finishing behind BYU (214). Colorado State's women's team tallied 119 points, finishing behind BYU (214), TCU (152) and San Diego State (128). After the CU Potts Invitational the Rams will host the Rob Upton Invitational on March 29.
