Lowden Honored as ACHA National Coach of the Year



Paul Lowden - 2007-2008 ACHA Coach of the Year

The 2008 American Collegiate Hockey Association [ACHA] Men's Division 2 Coach-of-the-Year Award goes to Paul Lowden of Davenport University, as selected by the ACHA Men's Division 2 Awards Committee, which includes Regional Ranking Coordinators and former winners of the Coach-of-the-Year.

Paul will be presented his ACHA Men's Division 2 Coach-of-the-Year Award at the American Hockey Coaches Association Coach-of-the-Year Celebration on Saturday, April 26, 2008, at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club in Naples, FL.

Paul has been the Head Coach of Davenport University for six seasons, beginning with the 2002-2003 season. This year's squad finished with a 35-15-5 record. Paul now boasts a career record of 193-51-15.

2007-2008 was full of highlights for Davenport University and Paul Lowden, including: 2008 ACHA Men's Division 2 National Champions; Great Midwest Hockey League [GMHL] Regular Season Champions; GMHL Playoff Champions; and tying the school record for the most wins in a season (35).

In addition, Paul was selected by the ACHA as the inaugural Head Coach for the Men's Division 2 Select Team. The Select Team traveled from December 27, 2007-January 4, 2008, with stops in Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic. The Select Team finished with a perfect 5-0-0 record, and outscored their opponents 33-11.

Past winners of the award include Jim Martin (MSU), Ron Glasow (San Jose), Alex Piotrowski (MSU), and Sam Kelly (IU).
