Ann Arbor, Mich. - The cold weather outside did not stop the red-hot Lady Panthers from extending its overall winning streak to nine as they defeated Concordia University 74-53. The win lifts DU to 21-3 on the year and a perfect 8-0 in the WHAC. When most of Grand Rapids was shut down all day Wednesday, the Lady Panthers hit the road hoping to extend its winning streak to nine and stay perfect in league play. They did just that by jumping out to a big lead early and squashed all of the host Cardinals runs in a convincing 74-53 victory. After an early 2-2 tie in the game, Davenport went on a 15-3 run highlighted by two three-pointers by Kristin Bergsma to give the Panthers a commanding 17-5 lead. The host Cardinals kept things interesting throughout the first half as DU was able to only push the lead over 10 only two more times in the opening period. DU went into the locker room leading by just eight at 34-26. The #7 ranked Panthers made sure Concordia did not gain any confidence as they opened the second half on a 10-2 run to open up a 16 point lead. Kristi Boehm got things started in the first minute of the half with a long three-pointer and the Panthers would never look back from there. Freshman Kayla Chapman stepped up big in only her third game in college as she hit two threes in route to a career high eight points. DU increased the lead to as many as 22 (70-48) at the 2:00 mark when Chapman hit her second three of the game. Jeanette Woodberry led the offensive attack for DU as she posted 19 points and 8 rebounds. Kristi Boehm posted 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the victory and was joined in double figures by Kristin Bergsma who chipped in with 10 points. DU will return home for their next two games beginning with Siena Heights University on Saturday, February 2 for a 1:00 PM tip-off. |
