Caledonia, Mich. - After struggling to defeat Siena Heights in Adrian early this season, the Davenport Lady Panthers came out on fire and cruised to an 84-60 victory over the Saints. After shaking off the a hot start from the Saints, the host Panthers buckled down on defense to earn their 10th straight win overall and improved to 22-3 on the season with a perfect 9-0 record in WHAC play.

Siena Heights put a nervous feel into the home crowd after connecting on their first four shots (all three-pointers) to jump out to an early lead. The Saints continued to play tough defense and forced Davenport into a few costly turnovers which resulted in a lead as big as five (22-17) for the visitors. DU would then step up and get hot from the floor as they went on an 11-3 run over the next 3:30 to grab a 28-25 lead. Siena Heights battled back to score two quick buckets to grab the lead away but Davenport refused to let up in their home gym as they then closed the half on a 16-7 run highlighted by the play of Freshman Kallie Benike who was making her first appearance in conference play. Lynne Blomberg also hit some key shots during the run to give the Panthers a 44-33 lead at the break.

After the Saints hit the opening shot of the 2nd half, DU put together a few runs over their own and increased the lead to as many 23 in the opening 10:00 of the half. With the score at 52-40 with 15:33 remaining, the Panthers used balanced scoring to put the game out of reach with five straight field goals by Benike, Jeanette Woodberry, Brittany Lyman, Sara Haverdink and Kristi Boehm to push the lead to 63-40. Head Coach Mark Youngs was able to use his bench today as all 15 players saw at least seven minutes of game action and they did not disappoint as each and every one scored by game's end.

Woodberry once again led the offense with 19 points on 9/11 shooting and was joined in double figures by Benike who posted a WHAC career high with 16 points. The Panthers forced the Saints into 25 turnovers and limited them to just 36% (20/55) shooting from the floor. DU on the other hand had a great night from the floor as they shot 48% (34-70) from the field and 37% (9/24) from behind the arc

Davenport will remain at home for their next WHAC contest when they welcome in Indiana Tech on Wednesday, February 6 inside Duncan Lake Middle School.
