Caledonia, Mich. - The Lady Panthers of Davenport University can once again call themselves WHAC Champions as they completed the conference season at 13-1 to earn at least a share of the crown. DU defeated Indiana Tech today 68-29 to complete the regular season at 26-4 overall as they now prepare for the upcoming WHAC Tournament which begins Thursday, February 28. A cold shooting first half did not stop the Panthers from playing solid defense throughout the game as they held the Warriors to just 29 points on the day. The first half started out the Panthers jumping out to an early lead before watching their lead diminish to just eight at the break. DU shot only 24% (10/41) in the first half as one highlight came from Sara Haverdink who hit three of the Panthers ten shots all from long distance. Although their shooting struggled, DU still managed to play outstanding defense in the first half as they held the Warriors to just 29%. The second half was where the offense finally clicked as DU was able to put some room between themselves and the visitors. The outstanding defense from the first half got even better in the closing half as DU held Indiana Tech to less than 10 points until two free-throws put them at 11 for the half with less than a minute remaining. Jeanette Woodberry scored 16 points on the day in her last regular season home game and Kristin Bergsma posted 2 points and 2 rebounds in her last regular season home game as a Panther. Almost every player on the roster was able to play at least 10 minutes in the game as Andrea Kimm posted her best all-around game in a Davenport uniform. The sophomore from Kassel, Germany scored 5 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked 4 shots in the victory. The bench for the Panthers scored 36 points compared to only 5 from the Warriors. Davenport will learn its playoff road tonight after the conclusion of the regular season in the WHAC. They are guaranteed to host at least a quarterfinal on Thursday, February 28 and then a semifinal on Saturday, March 1 if they win the quarterfinal.
