Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, OH - Visiting Dayton snapped a six-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory at Bowling Green in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon. The victory gives the Flyers a 15-14 overall record heading into Wednesday's home meeting with Wittenberg at 4 p.m. ET.

UD out hit BGSU, 15-7 while taking advantage of four Falcon fielding errors and receiving solid pitching efforts from all four Flyers that took the mound. Dayton scored five of its seven runs after two outs had been recorded in the inning.

Six different Flyers had multi-hit performances including Cole Tyrell who led the way with a 3-for-5 effort that included two RBI and a run scored.

Marshall MacDonald singled and doubled while scoring twice and driving in another run as part of a 2-for-5 day at the plate. Myles Swartzel smacked a double of his own while scoring a run in his 2-for-5 performance.

Ryan Nevill, Scott Dunwoody and Kevin Miller each added two hits of their own with Nevill scoring once and collecting an RBI while Miller drove in one more run in the Flyers' largest scoring output in the past nine games.

Junior Sean Finn improved to 2-1 on the season after allowing just one run on three hits over 5.0 innings pitched. He struck out two and was the first of four pitchers to not allow an extra-base hit to Bowling Green.

Chris Beesley came on to allow just one hit over 2.0 innings pitched before giving way to lefthander Quinn Haselhorst. The junior surrendered one run on three hits in the eighth inning.

Freshman Burny Mitchem threw a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts to close out the day for Dayton on the mound.

Dayton got things started in the first inning when Jacob Spaeth reached on a fielding error. After a double play cleared the bases, Marshall MacDonald got himself onto first base with another Falcon fielding error. Myles Swarzel followed with a single up the middle to extend the inning for Cole Tyrell. The sophomore lifted an RBI single to left field to give UD a 1-0 advantage.

Jimmy Roesinger started another rally in the second inning with a one-out single through the right side of the infield. Kevin Miller added a single of his own to put a pair of runners on base with just one out. Jacob Spaeth then hit a ground ball to shortstop that allowed Roesinger to score when the second baseman made an errant throw on a double play attempt for a 2-0 Flyer lead.

Marshall MacDonald ripped a double to left field to begin the Dayton third inning. MacDonald then moved to third on a ground out by Myles Swartzel. After another groundball stalled the runner at third, Ryan Nevill hit a RBI single to left field for a 3-0 UD advantage.

The first two Flyer batters were retired in order during the fourth inning, but Jacob Spaeth kept things going with a five-pitch walk. He then advanced to second on a single through the left side of the infield by Scott Dunwoody. Marshall MacDonald took advantage of the RBI situation with a single of his own to centerfield for a 4-0 lead.

Dayton continued its surge with two more runs in the fifth inning beginning with an infield single by Cole Tyrell. Ryan Nevill followed with a single of his own to right field that pushed Tyrell to second base. A sacrifice bunt from Max Navalinski moved the pair to second and third base with just one out. Jimmy Roesinger hit a groundball to the shortstop for an RBI and took advantage of another error to reach base safely. Nevill also moved to third on the play and scored when Kevin Miller laid down a squeeze bunt for a 6-0 Flyer advantage.

BGSU got one run each in the fifth and eighth innings, but Dayton took away all momentum with a score of its own in the top of the ninth inning. Myles Swartzel doubled down the left field line with one out to get the rally going and came home shortly there after on a RBI single to left field by Cole Tyrell to complete scoring in a 7-2 Flyer victory.
