Ryan Nevill has three RBI in Dayton's 8-3 win over Wittenberg

DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton continued its winning ways with an 8-3 victory over visiting Wittenberg on Wednesday at Time Warner Cable Stadium in non-conference baseball action. With its second consecutive victory, UD improved to 16-14 on the season while WU fell to 10-9 overall.

The duo of Ryan Nevill and Scott Dunwoody tallied three hits each to lead the Flyers who matched the Tigers with 11 hits each. Nevill doubled and hit a sacrifice fly while driving in three runs and scoring one more. Dunwoody was also 3-for-5 with a run scored and a RBI.

Myles Swartzel singled twice to finish 2-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base while scoring two runs and Marshall MacDonald belted his second homer of the season, walked and had a sacrifice fly to drive in two runs and score two more on the afternoon.

Freshman Willy Balbach earned his first collegiate victory after allowing allowing just one run on five hits over 5.0 innings pitched. He struck out two and walked a pair while improving to 1-1 on the season.

Matt Speckman followed on the mound for Dayton with three strikeouts and three hits allowed in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief work.

Ryan Hill followed with a pair of strikeouts in a perfect 0.2 innings pitched in the seventh inning before giving way to Tim Corbey. Corbey gave up two runs on three hits over 1.0 inning pitched.

Tim Lynn finished the day on the hill with a perfect ninth inning that included one strikeout.

Dayton began the day's scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Ryan Nevill led off with a single to left field. Max Navalinski was then hit by a pitch and the pair moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt by Jimmy Roesinger. Kevin Miller sent the first run of the game home three pitches later with a RBI groundout to second base for a 1-0 Flyer lead.

UD added another run in the third with a rally that started with a one-out walk by Myles Swartzel. He moved to second on a balk and then advanced to third on a groundout by Cole Tyrell. Ryan Nevill followed with a RBI single to right field to send Swartzel home and give Dayton a 2-0 advantage.

Wittenberg got one run back in the fourth inning before Dayton tallied two of its own in the bottom of the fifth frame. Marshall MacDonald ledoff the fifth with a towering solo home run to left field on the first pitch thrown by the Tiger reliever. Myles Swartzel also hit the first pitch he saw for an infield single that was followed with a stolen base that had him at second with no outs. He moved to third on another groundout by Cole Tyrell and came in to score on a RBI groundball by Ryan Nevill for a 4-1 Dayton lead.

Marshall MacDonald lifted a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning to drive in another Flyer run before the Tigers scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to make it a 5-3 game.

UD tallied three runs of its own in the bottom of the frame with a run that began on a five-pitch walk to Kevin Miller. Miller moved up to second on a wild pitch and went to third on a groundout by Jacob Spaeth. Scott Dunwoody followed with a RBI single to left field before also moving to second on another wild pitch. After a fielding error allowed Marshall MacDonald to reach first base safely, Myles Swartzel hit an another infield single to the shortstop to load the bases. Cole Tyrell lifted a RBI single to right field to send in one more run while Ryan Nevill added a sacrifice fly to centerfield to close out the scoring with Dayton on top 8-3.

The Flyers will look to continue their momentum at home this weekend with a three-game Atlantic 10 Conference series against Saint Joseph's. UD and SJU are scheduled to play Friday (3 p.m. ET), Saturday (1 p.m. ET) and Sunday (Noon ET) at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
