DAYTON 78, ST. BONAVENTURE 73

Postgame quotes from head coach Brian Gregory

March 5, 2008

Recap |  Box Score

Brian Gregory
"I think that this game clearly shows a couple of things. One, just how good this league really is. For St. Bona venture to be 2-13 in this league and we're at 7-8, I think both teams are really good. We got off to a great start shooting, but that was probably the worst thing that happened to us because we thought it would be open gym shooting. We're not as good in that and they can really shoot the ball and that's what happened. Give our guys credit. They rallied the troops at halftime and understood what they needed to do. We held them to 30 points in the second half and held them to 35 percent shooting. We did a better overall job. It's a big win on the road for us and a tough loss for St. Bonaventure. Those kids played their hearts. I've watched them on film and those guys have played their hearts out their whole career."

"I'm pleased with our guys and the way our seniors played. Jimmy (Binnie) hit a couple of big shots and Andres (Sandoval) with the one at the end. Brian was Brian Roberts. He controlled the tempo of the game and made a great pass to Andres. He trusts in his teammates and that was successful."

"Mark is a competitive coach and those kids respond to him. Plus it was senior night. We had some good looks. I think when we put in some of our subs, they thought it was a H-O-R-S-E Tournament and see what shot we can take now. We gave up a couple of open looks and that got them going. One of the big reasons we got out to that early lead was we hit open shots and our defense was pretty good. You get a little relaxed and think `coach has been on my butt about having a high hand and contesting the three we got this set already in the first nine minutes. You can't do that in this league. Everybody has a minimum of three really good players. When you have that and have the other guys play hard and compete, you can win some games and do what St. Bonaventure did today and make us fight every step of the way."
