ROBERTS NAMED NABC FIRST TEAM ALL-DISTRICT



Roberts leads UD in six statistical categories, including scoring (19.0).

University of Dayton senior guard Brian Roberts has been named First Team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, it was announced today. Roberts was joined on the NABC District 10 First Team by Notre Dame¡¦s Luke Harangody, Indiana¡¦s D.J. White and Eric Gordon, and Butler¡¦s Mike Green.

Roberts leads Dayton in scoring (19.0), assists (3.6), minutes (34.5), 3-pt. FGf­s (2.9), 3-pt. FG% (.449, 79-176) and FT% (.875, 98-112), and is in the top five of the A-10 in five statistical categories.

The senior from Toledo St. Johnf­s High School is the tenth UD player to be named First Team NABC All-District, and the first since Tony Stanley in 2001. Previous first-team selections were Roosevelt Chapman (1984), Jim Paxson (1979), Don May (1967 & 1968), Henry Finkel (1966), Bill Uhl (1955), Jack Sallee (1954 & 1955), John Horan (1955) and Don Meineke (1952).

The last Flyers to be named all-district were Keith Waleskowski and Ramod Marshall, who were both chosen to the second team in 2004.

Roberts is 18 points away from joining the Top 5 of UD¡¦s Career Scoring List, and now has 1,848 points. He will be the first UD player to lead the team in scoring three straight seasons since Paxson did it in his All-American season of 1978 79.

One of the top players in the country, Roberts is a finalist for four of the most prestigious college basketball awards in the country f² the Los Angeles Athletic Club's John R. Wooden Award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Naismith Trophy, the Basketball Hall of Fame's Bob Cousy Award and the Lowef­s Senior CLASS Award.

The Flyers are now 18-9, and 6-8 in the Atlantic 10. UD is currently tied for tenth place in the league, but is just one are just game out of third in the tightly-packed A-10. Dayton is at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, March 5 before returning home to face Saint Joseph¡¦s on Senior Day on Saturday, March 8.

Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, the members of the 15 district teams are now eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America teams to be announced on Saturday, April 5 at the 2008 NABC Convention at the Final Four in San Antonio.

Roberts is one of five Atlantic 10 players to earn first team all-district recognition. Another six A-10 players were named to their respective second teams.
