CUSTENBORDER SIZZLES AS UD PLACES IN 3RD AT OHIO STATE TOURNEY
April 5, 2009
COLUMBUS - Not only did the Dayton Flyers get out of a spring slump, so did one of its senior leaders. Mitch Custenborder fired rounds of 77 and 73 to help UD to a third-place finish at the Ohio State Quadrangular. The 73 was a season-best for Custenborder as UD competed against Ohio State, Cleveland State and Youngstown State. It's been a while since the senior from Greenville, Ohio has success like he did on Saturday. Custenborder hasn't shot a 73 since the 2007 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championships. As a team the Flyers shot their best rounds in the past three tournaments. Dayton finished with a 312 in round one and a 302 in the second. Sophomore Chris Woeste continued his hot play tallying rounds of 78 and 76. Sophomore Jeff Hodapp netted back-to-back rounds of 77 to tie with Woeste for twelfth. Freshman Michael Oberschmidt bounced back from a first round 80 to card a 76 in the second round. Senior Rob Chappell added scores of 80 and 79, while senior Nick Trubee completed the day with an 82 and 86. Dayton will then head to the UK Spring Invitational on April 11-12. The 54-hole tournament will take place on the Big Blue Course in Lexington, Ky. |
