WOESTE & FLYERS FINISH IN SECOND AT THE TITANS INVITATIONAL
April 18, 2009
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Needing to pick up some positive momentum heading into the upcoming conference championship, the Dayton Flyers got a spark from a steady sophomore. Chris Woeste fired a 75 in the third round to finish in second among individuals at the Titans Invitational. Woeste's effort also helped the Flyers pick up a second place finish as a team at the tournament. Woeste ran his streak of rounds below an 80 to 11 and completed the tournament just six strokes behind the leader. However, the Flyers had plenty of help to earn the second place tournament finish. Senior Rob Chappell broke out of a mid-season slump and completed the invitational tied for third overall. After shooting a 72 and 75 on day one, Chappell continued his resurgance with a 74 in the final round. Freshman Michael Oberschmidt continued to make good progress and carded a 77 in round three. Oberschmidt finished with a total of 234 and tied for 37th among individuals. Sophomore Jeff Hodapp fired a third round 84, but still finished tied for 40th overall. Senior Mitch Custenborder bounced back to fire a 75 in round three. Up next for the Flyers is the 2009 Atlantic10 Men's Golf Championship. The three-day event will begin on Friday, April 24 from the Mission Inn Resort in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. |
