OBERSCHMIDT'S STRONG EFFORT HELPS UD CLIMB INTO 7TH

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Freshman Michael Oberschmidt's second round 77 helped the Dayton Flyers climb in to seventh at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship. Oberschmidt finished the day in tied for 33rd and tallied two birdies in round two. His effort helped the Flyers shoot a 312 as a team. The defending Atlantic 10 Champion, Rob Chappell, shot a 75 to lead UD in day two. Chappell is tied for 12th after his first round of 74. On Saturday, Chappell finished the round strong with birdies on 16 and 18. Sophomore Chris Woeste had his string of rounds below an 80 snapped at 12 after shooting a second round 80. Woeste was a plus nine on the first nine holes of play, but settled down and shot even par on the back nine. After a first round 81, sophomore Jeff Hodapp tallied an 80 in round two and finished the day tied for 38th. Hodapp also struggled early on, but connected on seven consecutive pars to close the round. Senior Mitch Custenborder rounded out the scoring with an 84. He shot an 80 in round one. UD has a 625 overall score after two rounds of play. Charlotte leads the tournament after two rounds with a 572 total. The third and final round of the championship will take place on Sunday, April 26 beginning at 8 a.m. ET. |
