ROARING BACK, FLYERS TIE FOR SIXTH AT JOHN PIPER INTERCOLLEGIATE

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Behind a third round 72 from senior Matthew Friend the Dayton Flyers roared back to finish tied for sixth out of 13 teams at the John Piper Intercollegiate. After shooting a 307 and 306 as a team in the first two rounds, Dayton recorded the third best team score of the third round with a 293. Friend, who previously shot rounds of 78 and 78, finished tied for 28th overall with a total of 228. The top Flyer finisher was senior Rob Chappell who bounced back from two rounds of 76 to also shoot a 72 in the third round. Chappell finished with a total of 224 and tied for 16th among individuals. Sophomore Chris Woeste shot a third round score of 74 and completed the invitational with a 227, good for a tie in 26th. Sophomore Zach Glassman shot a 75 in round three after recording scores of 75 and 78 to finish one stroke behind Woeste. Freshman Michael Oberschmidt rounded out the scoring with scores of 78-77-82 to tie for 52nd overall. UD continues the fall season traveling to the John Dallio Memorial held Sept. 21-22 from Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill. |
