DAYTON, Ohio - The Flyer men's soccer team closed out their spring season with a split at the University of Kentucky Tournament.

Dayton took home a 2-0 win against Memphis in its first game of the tournament. Junior Alex Torda and freshman Alex Frenz each notched goal in the victory.

"We controlled the game against Memphis and did a good job keep them under pressure all game," said UD head coach Dennis Currier. `Offensively, we were able to string together several successful attacks which resulted in two goals scored."

In their final game of the spring, the Flyers were shut out 2-0 to Evansville.

"We played an even match the first half and had a few near misses at goal," said Currier. "In the second half, I felt Evansville was the better team and capitalized on their scoring chances. I was disappointed that we failed to hold the ball up in the second half and our flank play was not very effective."

The Flyers finished the spring campaign with a 2-2-2 mark with wins over the Big Ten Conference's Michigan - a Sweet 16 team of the 2008 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship - and Memphis.

"We faced a very challenging schedule this spring which included two NCAA Tournament Teams and a professional team that won the USL Division II in 2008," said Currier. "We want to consistently challenge our team in the spring which I believe plays a critical role in our future.

"We need to get comfortable with playing against great competition all year and also expect to get results. That is what separates great teams from good teams," he added. "This spring allowed us to continue our growth as a program. We look forward to this Fall season."

During the Fall 2008 season the Flyers earned their first-ever NCAA Men's Soccer Championship berth and their first Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship since 1998. Dayton posted a school-best 15 wins, en route to its 15-4-3 overall record which was the ninth best winning percentage in NCAA Division men's soccer.
