ALBERS EARNS THE A-10 MEN'S SOCCER ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD

Freshman Josh Albers has two goals in nine games this season for the Flyers

Oct. 8, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - The Atlantic 10 Conference awarded Dayton Flyer freshman Josh Albers as the Rookie of the Week. Albers is the first A-10 weekly award winner this season for UD.

Albers connected for his second goal of the season to help the Flyers win 2-1 over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies last week. Off an assist from sophomore Alex Torda, Albers converted a quick one-timer to help the Dayton improve to 6-1-2 overall and 4-0-0 at Baujan Field this season.

On the 2007 campaign, Albers has two goals and four points in nine games played. He leads all freshman Flyers in scoring and is tied for second on the team in goals scored.

"Josh has done well as a freshman and against a lot of good competition," said head coach Dennis Currier. "His play has been excellent in games. Technically, he's gifted and he's a smart soccer player who gets in the right spots and the right time."

The Cincinnati, Ohio native is UD's first Rookie of the Week since Florian DeCamps picked up the honor back on Oct. 30, 2006.

Albers has been one of the keys to Dayton's success so far this season. The Flyers are in third in the NSCAA/adidas® Middle Atlantic Regional Rankings.

It's the highest UD has been regionally ranked during the Currier era. Dayton has victories this season over Oakland, Wright State, Butler, Eastern Illinois, Sacramento State and St. Francis.

Riding a five-game unbeaten streak (4-0-1), Albers and the Dayton Flyers begin Atlantic 10 play this weekend when UD battles the Massachusetts Minutemen on Friday and the Rhode Island.
