    DAYTON, Ohio - After producing one of its best seasons in program history on the pitch, the University of Dayton men's soccer team also showed what they've got in the classroom, earning the NSCAA/adidas Team Academic Award for the 2007-2008 academic school year. The Flyers posted a 3.09 GPA, earning the honor for the second consecutive season.

    Junior midfielder Alex Torda, who also made Dayton soccer history by being the first Flyer named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2008, led the way as he was selected to the prestigious 2008 NSCAA/adidas Men's College Scholar All-America Team. He is just the third UD player since 1997 to earn the distinction.

    Torda, who led UD in goals scored (10), was named to the University Division Second Team and was one of 44 men's soccer players in the country named to the All-America Team. Torda, along with all the Scholar All-America selections, is invited to be recognized at the annual All-America luncheon, to be held in St. Louis, on Saturday, Jan. 17 as part of the 2009 NSCAA Convention.

    The Colleyville, Texas native carries a 3.63 GPA in entrepreneurship and finance at Dayton. A First Team All-District IV CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine All-Academic selection, Torda was also named to the 2008 A-10 Men's Soccer Academic All-Conference Team.

    Torda was a First Team 2008 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-East Region selection in the University Division, while fellow Flyer junior Ben Murray earned Third Team honors. Murray, a native of Westerville, Ohio, boasts a 3.69 GPA in business/economics and finance. He was also named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team.

    Senior midfielder Joe Olwig and junior defender Sonny Renner were dubbed Honorable Mention picks to the Scholar All-East Region. Olwig, of St. Louis, maintains a 3.54 GPA in economics/entrepreneurship and finance, while Renner, a Keller, Texas native, has a 3.40 GPA in communications management.

    Dayton finished the 2008 campaign 15-4-3 overall with an Atlantic 10 Championship and a bid to the 2008 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship for the first time in UD men's soccer history.
