FLYERS BEAT NKU 6-1 FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

The UD men's tennis team won its third consecutive match on Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over Northern Kentucky at Dayton Center Courts. Dayton swept the doubles point and won five singles matches while improving to 5-6 overall and 3-0 to begin its five-match homestand. Sophomore Matt Sherman picked up his team-leading sixth singles victory of the spring. Dayton soared through the doubles matches to open the contest. Sophomore Michael Rohana and junior David Peyton led the way with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 over Fritz Dlabik and Felipe Rossetti. At No. 2 doubles, junior Antonio Rodriguez and freshman Michael Koscielski topped Reed Sparks and Jason Kramer 8-4, while Sherman and freshman Bryce Warnock clipped Jon Raley and Michael Volkov at No. 3, 8-6. In singles, Rohana downed Rossetti, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1. At No. 2, Sherman (6-5 singles) posted his third straight singles win by defeating Sparks, 6-3, 6-2. Rodriguez held off Volkov in a super tiebreak at No. 4 singles, winning the match 7-6, 5-7, 10-6. Warnock- last week's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week- won his third consecutive singles match by defeating Kramer at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2. Koscielski rounded out the scoring for UD with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 over Raley. Dayton will go for four wins in a row on Friday, Feb. 29 against Youngstown State at Dayton Center Courts at 4 p.m. ET. |
