BRONX, NY - Behind two double-scoring efforts from Nikki Oakland and Brittany Holterman, the University of Dayton women's basketball team defeated Fordham 56-39 Saturday afternoon in Bronx, NY. The Flyers improve to 19-5 on the year picking up their fifth Atlantic 10 Conference win of the season.

Dayton's 19th win marks a new modern (Division I) school-record for wins in a season.

Fordham remains winless falling to 0-24 overall and 0-9 in league play.

Oakland tallied a game-high 19 points, while Holterman earned her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Flyers dominated the Rams in points in the paint, 30-14 and also out-rebounded Fordham, 50-40. Oakland grabbed nine boards for UD, Kristin Daugherty collected seven as Karah Cloxton finished with six.

UD tallied a season-high 10 blocks in the game for a decisive 10-1 advantage against Fordham, four of those blocks coming from Oakland and three from Kelly Keil.

Dayton's defense limited the Rams to 25 percent shooting from the field and 13 percent shooting from three point range. The Flyers finished 20-of-57 from the field and 14-of-22 from the charity stripe.

Annie Zopf was Fordham's leading scorer with 11 points, while Kassie Humphries and Megan Mahoney picked up nine points each.

Fordham opened up the scoring with a jumper from Earl, but foul shots would get the Flyers on board as UD tallied its first five points on free throws from Oakland and Cloxton.

Holterman laid in a shot under the basket and was fouled for a three-point play that gave the Flyers an 8-2 edge at 15:26.

The Rams would attempt to battle back with a three from Troutt and a jumper from Earl, but the Flyers kept up the pace.

Dayton crashed the boards early on leading in rebounds 15-2 in the first eight minutes of play.

With a three from Lund at 11:27, Dayton would gain its biggest lead of the half of 13 points, 21-8.

However, the Rams would rally on a 7-0 run for nearly two minutes.

Fordham would pull within four points (29-25) with just two minutes to play, but it's as close as they would get as Dayton took a five point lead into the locker room, 32-27.

Oakland would come out ready to battle in the second frame scoring nine of the first 13 points.

Layups from Holterman and Ross helped build Dayton's lead once again, 47-34 at 10:21.

Cloxton would sink a three at 4:25 and Holterman would knock down another shot on the next possession as the Flyers pushed the lead to 54-39 with 3:35 left to go in the game.

Both teams remained scoreless for nearly four minutes until Keil was sent to line for two throws, one of which she made to move the score 55-39.

Dayton would never relinquish its lead eventually winning the game.

UD will return home for a three-game home stretch beginning with local rival Xavier University on Valentine's Day. The Flyers will host the Musketeers on Thursday, Feb. 14 in a game that can be followed with Gametracker, video streaming and audio (1610 AM) on www.DaytonFlyers.com.
