Cincinnati jumped out to a 12-8 lead by the first media timeout, but Dayton tied it up after shots from Kristen Daugherty and Casey Nance to even the score 12-12 with 14:23 on the clock. Dayton took its second lead of the game after back-to-back baskets from Patrice Lalor, however Cincinnati would keep in it with two of their own to knot the score up once again (16-16). Both teams remained scoreless for nearly two minutes until Kendel Ross netted a shot from beyond the arc to give UD a 19-18 edge with 8:13 left to play in the half. Raterman would get a shot up to widen the margin, but UC's Val Schuster would score a jumper and drain a three for a 24-21 lead with 5:15 remaining. The Flyers took a one-point lead (30-29) into the locker room after Raterman's trip to the line as the rookie Flyer knocked down both shots. UC scored 11 points off turnovers in the half as the Flyers finished with 10 turnovers to the Bearcats' four. However, Dayton finished with a commanding lead in rebounds 27-15. UD would hold onto the lead until the 8:41 mark when Cincinnati's Shelly Bellman made a lay-up to edge the score 40-39. It was a back-and-forth battle from that point on. Daugherty was fouled on a three-pointer and was sent to the line going a perfect 3-for-3 to move it 54-51. Kristin would get another three points for UD after being fouled on a fast-break lay-up and Lalor would make good on two shots from the line to hold on to a 59-53 lead with 30 seconds left in the game. UC's Kahla Roudebush would sink a trey with 12 seconds left on the clock and the Bearcats would call a timeout, but wouldn't get up any more shots up as the Flyers closed out the game, 59-56.
